The European rail standard specifies that the technical conditions apply to the high-speed railway. EN 13674.1—2003 proposed very comprehensive and strict quantitative requirements including residual elements, hydroxy-nitrogen content, inclusions, decarburization layer, fracture toughness, fatigue crack growth rate, sample tensile and compressive fatigue, rail residual stress, as well as geometric dimension tolerance, rail end and rail body flatness, surface defects, etc for rail appearance quality.
