rail tensor
Drive: hydraulic pump (manual or motor type)
Verification: CRCC
Application: CWR stress release, welding rails, gap adjustemt, etc.

A rail tensor, also referred to as a rail puller or rail stressor, is a piece of equipment used in railway construction and maintenance for stretching railroad tracks to release or eliminate stress resulting from temperature fluctuation. It is a vital rail maintenance equipment in the track laying of continuous welded rail (CRW).
Before welding two lengths of railroad tracks, a certain stress is required. We know that railroad rails endure heat expansion and cold contraction and tend to deform or crack. A rail tensor comes into stretch rails to a certain length and reach a state of stress-free at the SFT (stress-free temperature). This enables the railroad track to avoid expansion and bending in summer and tensile cracks in winter.

Stress relief
In railway lines, stress will be generated inside the rails due to changes in temperature, load, and other factors. The rail puller can forcibly stretch the rails in a zero-stress state to the length at the locked rail temperature within a range below the locked rail temperature, thereby releasing or adjusting these stresses to ensure the stability and safety of the line.
Track laying
The rail puller plays a crucial role in the laying of long welded rail. When laying new tracks, long rails needed to be connected first. Before that, the rail tensor pulls railroad rails to the desired length with a compatible stress, ensuring flatness and continuity.
Track replacement
When the railroad track needs to be changed, the new section of track’s stress should be compatible with the connected rails. Otherwise, the new rail will become a “weak point” of the entire line, and it is more prone to problems.
Aluminothermic rail welding
Aluminothermic welding is a common way of welding railroad rails. In the process of aluminothermic rail welding, a rail tensor can stretch the tracks to the supposed length, ensuring the welding quality and integrity of railway lines.
Rail repair & rail gap adjustment
Rail tensor can also be applied to a seamless railroad track for repairing broken rails, rail gap adjustment on ordinary railway lines, and maintenance of any type of rail.
Key advantages of AGICO rail puller

Higher efficiency with high stretching strength
Hydraulic systems can generate tons or even tens of tons of pull, which far exceeds the power of manual or mechanical devices, meeting the demand for long rails and high-tension stress. The highly efficient operation saves time and money to finish the pulling work, especially suitable for heavy haul or large-scale track construction.
Precise control
The hydraulic system can accurately control the drawing distance through a pressure gauge, stroke ruler, and sensor. Some high-end models support preset stroke or force value, the operator input parameters after the machine automatically completes the action, and the error is small. The “stress-neutral adjustment” of the rail is more scientific and controllable.
More secure and reliable
The hydraulic system responds smoothly, avoiding the danger of “yanking” and “bouncing” in the mechanical drawing process. The equipment is equipped with anti-slip jaws, safety locks, and limiting devices. It can also work stably in extreme environments such as high temperatures and low temperatures.
Wide range of applications
The rail tensor is suitable for various rail types (such as 50kg, 60kg, UIC60, etc.), and can be used in seamless lines, new lines, rail replacement, maintenance, and other scenarios. Some models are designed to be lightweight and split to work in narrow areas such as tunnels and bridges.
